West Virginia 57, Texas 53 (OT): Aaric Murray scored four of his team-high 12 points in the extra period as the Mountaineers rallied from a late 10-point deficit in regulation and collected their first Big 12 win.
Murray, who also grabbed 10 rebounds en route to his second double-double of the season, hit two free throws with six seconds left that sealed the win for West Virginia (8-6, 1-1 Big 12). Jabarie Hinds matched his season high with 11 points and Kevin Noreen grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for the Mountaineers.
Jonathan Holmes scored 12 points for the Longhorns, with his final points coming on a 3-pointer that tied the score and forced overtime. Javan Felix contributed 11 points for Texas (8-7, 0-2 Big 12).
Trailing 47-37 with 3:35 remaining in regulation, West Virginia completed its double-digit comeback on Gary Browne’s layup with 1:26 left and took a 50-47 lead on a 3-pointer by Eron Harris 66 seconds later.
Texas missed five of its six field goal attempts in overtime and committed two turnovers while West Virginia was 1-for-8 in the final five minutes and missed five free throws.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Longhorns lost for the first time in 15 Big 12 home openers under coach Rick Barnes. … Texas sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan finished with nine points, the first time this season he has failed to score in double digits. … West Virginia has won 63 of its last 75 games when holding an opponent to 69 points or less.
