Purdue 73, William & Mary 66: Terone Johnson scored 16 points and the Boilermakers held on for a hard-fought victory over the visiting Tribe in their final non-conference tuneup.
Purdue (6-6) got a couple of big baskets from Jacob Lawson in the final moments and Johnson scored six in the last five minutes to lead the Boilermakers to their second straight win and a return to the .500 mark.
William & Mary (7-4), which had a four-game winning streak snapped, led 40-39 at halftime on the strength of 60 percent shooting from the field, but the Tribe could not hold off Purdue. A.J. Hammons added 14 points for the Boilermakers while Ronnie Johnson, Terone's younger brother, chipped in 11.
Marcus Thornton scored 21 points to lead four players in double digits for the Tribe. Tim Rusthoven tallied 16 while Kyle Gaillard had 12 and Brandon Britt added 11. William & Mary shot 49.1 percent for the game from the field.
NOTEBOOK: Purdue, which has not been over .500 all year, hosts No. 15 Illinois in its Big Ten opener on Jan. 2...The Boilermakers went 3-0 this year against the CAA with wins over William & Mary, Hofstra, and UNC Wilmington ... Thornton has scored in double figures in 13 straight games dating back to last year and now has five games of 20 or more points this season.
