Sophomore Jordan Williams had 16 points and 13 rebounds as Maryland beat North Carolina State for the ninth straight time, 75-67 on Thursday in Greensboro, N.C., to advance to Friday’s ACC quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Duke.
Tracy Smith, N.C. State’s leading scorer, reportedly did not start because of a sore knee, but came on to lead the Wolfpack (15-16) with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Williams, who posted his 24th double-double, also had three blocks as the Terrapins (19-13) kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive and could get onto the bubble by upsetting the Blue Devils.
It was 18-14 Maryland when the Terps went on a 13-0 run midway through the first half. All five Terps scored during the surge. Maryland led 42-33 at the break.
Dino Gregory finished with 11 points and six rebounds for Maryland, which overcame 16 turnovers.
The Blue Devils swept the Terps 80-62 in College Park, Md., and 71-64 at home.
