Tennessee-Martin had played Ohio State just once before and that was over 20 years ago. After Monday night the Skyhawks would likely wait at least 20 more before they meet the Buckeyes again.
William Buford scored 23 points and Jared Sullinger chipped in with 18 to lead No. 2 Ohio State to a 100-40 victory over Tennessee-Martin in a non-conference matchup on Monday.
The teams had met just once before with the Buckeyes (13-0) posting a win during the 1988-89 season. Ohio State moved to 2-0 in the series with a strong first half and then kept up the pressure in the second half.
Ohio State led 49-17 at the half as Buford scored 16 points and Sullinger added 12.
Reuben Clayton had 9 at the break for the Skyhawks (4-9), who shot 7-of-31 (22 percent) from the field in the first half.
Ohio State started the second half on a 14-0 run to take a 63-17 lead. The spurt got to 30-6 midway through the second half as the Buckeyes went up 79-23.
DeShaun Thomas scored 16 points off the bench for the Buckeyes, who open their Big Ten Conference slate Friday at Indiana.
