Logan Webb won a 1-hour, 55-minute pitchers' duel over Ross Stripling with his second career shutout as the host San Francisco Giants salvaged a split of their two-game series against the rival Oakland Athletics with a 1-0 victory Wednesday night.

Facing a team that ranked second in the majors in runs in July at the beginning of the day, Webb (8-8) allowed just five hits, none for extra bases. He faced just three batters with a runner in scoring position and retired all three.

The All-Star walked one and struck out six en route to his fourth outing this season in which he allowed no runs in six or more innings.

His only previous shutout came last July in another 1-0 home win over the Colorado Rockies.

Oakland's biggest threat came in the first, when singles by Miguel Andujar and JJ Bleday put runners at first and third with one out. But Webb struck out Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers - both looking -- to escape the jam.

The A's also put two runners aboard in the fourth when Bleday again singled and Abraham Toro walked with two outs. Seth Brown then grounded out to third.

Oakland's only other hits were a leadoff single by Andujar in the sixth and a two-out single by Toro in the ninth. Webb wrapped up his 106-pitch gem by getting Brown on a grounder to second with Toro aboard.

Stripling (2-10) matched zeroes with his former Giants teammate until back-to-back singles by Mike Yastrzemski and Marco Luciano put runners at the corners with one out in the fifth. Brett Wisely then drove a fly ball to medium-deep center field to score Yastrzemski.

Stripling went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just the one run on four hits. He walked one and didn't strike out anyone.

The Giants finished with just four hits, including doubles by Matt Chapman and LaMonte Wade Jr., en route to completing a 5-1 homestand.

Andujar and Bleday had two hits apiece for the A's, who get a two-game rematch with the Giants at home in August.
