Manuel Margot scored from third in the 10th inning Sunday afternoon as Arizona catcher John Ryan Murphy was throwing out pinch-hitter Francisco Mejia at first on a strikeout to give the Padres a 4-3 walk-off win at Petco Park.

Margot, who homered earlier in the game, tripled with one out to bring up Mejia to face reliever Jake Barrett (0-1). Mejia swung and missed at a 0-and-2 pitch from Barrett, but the ball skipped a short distance away from Murphy. As the catcher threw to first, Margot broke for the plate to beat the throw from first baseman Daniel Descalso.

Jose Castillo, who pitched a perfect 10th, got the win to even his record at 3-3.

Both teams had scored in the ninth. Ketel Marte scored on a sacrifice fly by Socrates Brito off Padres closer Kirby Yates with one out in the top of the inning. Marte singled to open the inning, moved to second when Chris Owings drew a walk and advanced to third on Daniel Descalso's ground out to second. Brito followed with a fly to medium-deep center with no play at the plate.

The Padres tied the game on three straight singles by Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe and Eric Hosmer off Archie Bradley with one out in the bottom of the inning. Austin Hedges then grounded into a double play to send the finale into extra innings.

Arizona, which led the National League West for 125 days this season, finished an 8-19 September that dropped them to third in the division at 82-79. The Padres finished 65-96.

Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision as the Padres took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 only to have them countered by Diamondbacks solo homers by Marte and pinch-hitter Steven Souza Jr. off Padres rookie left-hander Joey Lucchesi.

The Padres took a 1-0 with two outs in the second when Manuel Margot lined his eighth homer of the season to center off Diamondbacks' starter Robbie Ray. Marte evened the score with his 14th homer leading off the fourth.

Freddy Galvis and Wil Myers opened the Padres fifth with singles. Franmil Reyes then hit a high fly to the warning track in right that Arizona right fielder Brito lost in the sun for a double that allowed Galvis to score. The Padres had runners on second and third with no one out and the bases loaded with one out only to have reliever John Sherfy strike out Austin Hedges and Jose Pirela to end the threat.

Lucchesi, who entered the game with a 0-5 record and a 6.85 earned run average against Arizona this season, allowed the two runs on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over six innings. Ray gave up two runs on five hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in four plus innings.
