Austin Romine hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning as the New York Yankees defeated the host Seattle Mariners 4-2 Saturday night.
Andrew McCutchen also homered for New York, which is 5-0 against the Mariners this season and will go for the season sweep Sunday afternoon.
Yankees right-hander Lance Lynn (9-10) evened his record at 2-2 since being acquired from Minnesota at the July 31 trading deadline. Lynn pitched six innings and allowed two runs on three hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Romine, whose brother Andrew plays for the Mariners, hit a solo shot to right field with one out in the seventh off right-hander Nick Vincent (3-3) to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. It was Austin Romine's 10th home run of the season.
The Yankees added a run in the ninth on Gleyber Torres' sacrifice fly off right-hander Ryan Cook.
The Mariners threatened in the bottom of the inning against right-hander Dellin Betances. Mitch Haniger led off with a double. An out later, Robinson Cano was hit in the left foot by a pitch, forcing him from the game. Betances then walked Nelson Cruz to load the bases. But Betances struck out Denard Span and Kyle Seager to earn his third save of the season.
Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez left the game with right hamstring tightness after walking the first two batters in the fifth inning and was replaced by right-hander Shawn Armstrong. After a passed ball by Mike Zunino, Giancarlo Stanton hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right field to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.
Hernandez allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits in four-plus innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.
Seattle tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on Dee Gordon's two-out single to left, scoring Ben Gamel.
McCutchen led off the game with a home run to left field, his 17th. McCutchen also homered in Friday's series opener, his first for New York since being acquired Aug. 31 from San Francisco.
The Mariners tied it at 1-1 when Zunino led off the bottom of the third with a homer to straightaway center field, his 19th.
