Roope Hintz scored 1:49 into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a wild 7-6 comeback victory over the host San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

The Stars came back to equalize three times in the game, including an unlikely late surge after trailing 6-3 with 13 minutes left in the third period. Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston then scored within a 43-second span, and Johnston evened things up with his third goal of the game by depositing a rebound at the 15:42 mark.

Johnston had three goals and two assists, setting career highs for points and goals in a game.

Stankoven had two goals and two assists, giving the 21-year-old rookie eight points (five goals, three assists) in his first six NHL games. Jamie Benn (one goal, three assists) and Miro Heiskanen (four assists) also had four-point performances for Dallas.

Jake Oettinger earned the win despite allowing six goals on 20 shots.

The result moved Dallas into first place in the Central Division and extended the Stars' winning streak to three games.

San Jose fell to 0-6-2 in its past eight games despite matching its season high for goals in a game.

Anthony Duclair had two goals and two assists for the Sharks, and Fabian Zetterlund had a goal and two assists. Mikael Granlund had a goal and an assist, and Filip Zadina and Ryan Carpenter scored the Sharks' other goals.

Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 33 of 40 shots.

The Sharks were 2-for-4 on the power play Tuesday, making them 6-for-14 with the extra attacker over their past four games. The Stars are only 5-for-9 in killing penalties over their past four games, but their power play went 2-for-3 on the night.

San Jose held a 2-0 lead until the last 1:22 of the first period, when Dallas equalized on power-play goals from Benn and Stankoven within a 49-second span.

The teams exchanged goals again early in the second period before Duclair restored the Sharks' lead with a power-play marker at 15:48 off the frame. Zadina struck two minutes later, and Granlund scored early in the third period to give San Jose a seemingly insurmountable 6-3 advantage.
