Five players scored in double figures Wednesday night as Texas Tech upped its record to 8-1 with an 87-50 nonconference rout of Texas-San Antonio at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

Guards Keenan Evans and Niem Stevenson paced the Red Raiders with a game-high 16 points apiece, combining to hit 12-of-19 field goals. Reserve Matthew Temple contributed 13 points, while Justin Gray and Anthony Livingston chipped in 10 each.

Texas Tech never trailed, taking the lead 69 seconds into the game and expanding the lead throughout against the outmanned Roadrunners (2-7). The Red Raiders doubled UTSA up at the half by 42-21, then kept executing and defending in a second half that was a replay of the first.

Forward Jeff Beverly tallied 10 points to lead the Roadrunners, who had difficulty making shots, shooting a measly 35.2 percent from the field and canning only 5-of-21 on 3-point attempts. UTSA was 1-for-10 from the arc in the first half.

Texas Tech scored seven straight points to start the game, gave up a bucket, scored seven more, gave up another basket and then rattled off a third 7-0 run. That put it ahead 21-4 just over seven minutes into the mismatch.

The margin never dipped below 18 during the second half, reaching 30 for the first time at the 12:58 mark on a jumper by Temple.

The Red Raiders sank 52.5 percent of their field-goal attempts, including 9-of-22 on 3-pointers, and connected on all 14 of their foul shots. They outrebounded the Roadrunners 36-27 and drew assists on 20 of their 32 field goals.

Texas Tech committed only eight turnovers and converted 14 UTSA turnovers into 23 points.
