Georgia 71, Appalachian State 53: Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines scored 14 points apiece in a balanced scoring effort as the host Bulldogs pulled away from the Mountaineers in the second half.
Nemanja Djurisic added 10 points for Georgia (2-4), which shot 55.1 percent from the field to snap a four-game losing streak. Cameron Forte chipped in eight points on 4-of-5 shooting as eight Bulldogs scored between five and 14 points.
Tevin Baskin scored a game-high 20 points for Appalachian State (2-5), which trailed 33-32 at halftime. Tab Hamilton scored 11 points despite shooting 3-of-11 from the field while Mike Neal had six.
Georgia led by as many as seven in the first half, but Baskin and Hamilton scored all of the Mountaineers points in a 12-6 run midway through the opening frame as Appalachian State stayed close. A Baskin jumper 44 seconds into the second half pushed the Mountaineers ahead 36-35, but a Gaines dunk 30 seconds later gave the Bulldogs the lead for good.
Forte and Mann followed up with buckets before Djurisic made a layup with 12:32 left to cap the 12-1 spurt and give Georgia a 47-37 lead. Appalachian State got no closer than eight from there.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Both teams combined to shoot just 7-of-29 from 3-point range. … Georgia F Donte' Williams matched a game high with six rebounds and blocked a season-high five shots. … The Bulldogs overcame shooting 60.9 percent from the foul line.
