Freshman Jamee Crocket collected 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead DePaul to its first Big East road win, 69-64, over Rutgers on Wednesday.
Cleveland Melvin added 16 points and seven boards, and Brandon Young chipped in nine points and seven assists for the Blue Demons (11-9, 2-6 Big East), who doubled their conference win total from the 2010-11 season.
The Scarlet Knights looked to be in control when Derrick Randall converted a layup to give them a 50-39 lead with 10:21 to play.
But Crockett came right down and buried a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession and Rutgers managed only two points over the next five minutes as DePaul crawled back into the game.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Crockett gave the Blue Demons their first lead of the second half, 55-54, with 4:51 left. It went back and forth for the next two minutes, with Rutgers knotting it at 62-62 with 2:11 left.
Melvin took it from there, scoring the next four points as DePaul pulled away.
Myles Mack collected 22 points and five rebounds for the Scarlet Knights (11-10, 3-5), who have dropped three of the last four.
