Washington came away with its first road win of the season powered by guard Terrence Ross, who had 14 points in a 57-53 Pac-12 victory over Utah.
An 11-2 run midway through the second half got Utah to within a point at 43-42 on a layup by guard Josh Watkins, the game’s top scorer with 18. But Ross, who had 11 of his points after the break, just beat the shot clock with a long 3-pointer with 8:36 to play, and the Huskies (9-6, 3-1 Pac-12) recovered to get the lead up to 55-47 with 1:45 to play.
Utah (4-11, 1-2 Pac-12) had enough left to go on a 6-0 run to cut the Washington lead to 55-53 before Ross made two free throws with 8 seconds left for the Huskies, who were 0-5 away from Seattle before this one.
The Utes, who came into the game averaging about 25 points per game fewer than the Huskies, controlled the tempo in the first half, but trailed 29-27 at the intermission.
