Saint Joseph’s opened the second half on a 19-8 run and pulled away for a 66-53 win over Georgia Tech in the opening round of the Charleston Classic on Thursdsay.
The Hawks (2-0), who trailed by five at the break, will face Seton Hall in Friday’s semifinals. The Yellow Jackets (2-1) will face VCU in the losers’ bracket on Friday.
Junior guard Carl Jones nailed 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and led the Hawks with 19 points. Sophomore guard Langston Galloway scored all 15 of his points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with two minutes left that removed any suspense.
Point guard Mfon Udofia scored 20 to lead Tech, which lost its first game under new coach Brian Gregory.
