Dwyane Wade scored a game-high 26 points and Miami rode a spectacular third quarter to a convincing 96-70 rout of the visiting Orlando Magic on Friday night.
Miami outscored the Magic 28-10 in the third quarter to turn a six-point halftime lead into a 24-point advantage while easily winning the first matchup of a geographical rivalry intensified by LeBron James’ offseason arrival in Miami.
The Heat held Orlando to 25 second-half points in the team’s first home contest since free agents James and Chris Bosh signed with the franchise.
James had 15 points and seven assists as the Heat (2-1) won for the second straight game. Orlando fell to 1-1.
Magic star Dwight Howard had 19 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Ryan Anderson added 12 points off the bench.
Udonis Haslem had 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for Miami. Bosh contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.
