DeMarco Murray took his first handoff of the game 91 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the way to a record-setting day and the Dallas Cowboys walloped the visiting St. Louis Rams 34-7 to snap a two-game losing streak Sunday.
Murray, replacing injured running back Felix Jones (ankle), finished with 253 yards on 25 carries to break the Cowboys’ single-game rushing record of 239 yards held by Emmitt Smith. He also broke Tony Dorsett’s rookie record of 198 yards in a game.
Murray had over 100 yards in the first half as Dallas (3-3) took a 17-7 lead into the break.
Tony Romo had two touchdown passes in the contest. He hit tight end Jason Witten with a 1-yard scoring pass in the first half and added a 20-yarder to Dez Bryant late in the fourth quarter.
The Rams, who began the day as one of three winless teams, got a 6-yard touchdown run from Steven Jackson in the first half but little else.
A.J. Feeley started for injured Sam Bradford (ankle) at quarterback for St. Louis (0-6) and finished with 196 yards on 20-for-33 passing.
Philip Tanner also had a touchdown for Dallas on a 6-yard run.
The Rams suffered a pair of serious injuries in the game. Right tackle Jason Smith and backup defensive tackle Darell Scott were each carted off the field because of head injuries.
Smith was accidentally kicked in the head during the first quarter and cameras showed him moving his hands while being driven out of the stadium.
