Matt Prater’s 52-yard field goal in overtime capped an improbable rally as Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos kept the host Miami Dolphins winless with an 18-15 victory Sunday for the franchise's 400th victory.
The Broncos tied the game with 17 seconds left as Tebow ran for a two-point conversion, which followed his 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Daniel Fells.
Tebow’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas with 2:44 left made it 15-7 and the Broncos recovered the ensuing onside kick to set up Tebow’s final drive.
Linebacker D.J. Williams’ sack, forced fumble and recovery at the Miami 36 set up Prater’s kick.
Miami (0-6) lost its ninth straight game and fell for the 12th time in its last 13 home contests. Tebow was sacked seven times by the Dolphins, who entered the game with eight on the season.
Tebow, who was making his first start of the season, finished 13-of-27 passing for 161 yards and rushed for 65 yards.
Denver (2-4), which rushed for a season-high 183 yards, snapped a four-game losing streak and a seven-game slide at Miami.
Matt Moore’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano on the first play of the fourth quarter gave Miami a 12-0 lead. It also snapped a streak of 10 quarters without a touchdown for the Dolphins.
It was the first game this season that didn’t feature a third-down conversion (0 for 11) in the first half. Miami’s first conversion didn’t occur until the third quarter while Denver didn’t convert until there was 4:35 left in the game.
The 2009 Florida Gators national championship team, quarterbacked by Tebow, was honored at halftime.
