Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer to help the Seattle Mariners defeat the visiting Boston Red Sox 6-5 Saturday night.

Right-hander Mike Leake (1-0) pitched six strong innings for the Mariners, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out seven.

The Mariners have won two of the first three games of the series, which concludes Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park.

Trailing 6-2, the Red Sox scored three times in the ninth on errors -- two throwing errors and one fielding error -- on three consecutive plays by rookie third baseman Dylan Moore. With closer Hunter Strickland going on the 10-day injured list earlier in the day with a right lat strain, Mariners right-hander Nick Rumbelow caught Xander Bogaerts looking at a called third strike to end the game.

The Mariners scored twice in the bottom of the first off Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1).

Mitch Haniger led off by grounding a single into center field. With two outs, Jay Bruce walked, and Tim Beckham lined a single to center, scoring Haniger and sending Bruce to third. Ryon Healy doubled to left to make it 2-0.

The Red Sox got one run back in the second and tied it in the third.

Mitch Moreland, who hit a three-run, pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning Friday to give the Red Sox a 7-6 victory, doubled to center with one out. An out later, Jackie Bradley Jr. singled to center to score Moreland and make it 2-1. With one out in the third, J.D. Martinez singled home Rafael Devers, who had walked and stolen second.

The Mariners regained the lead in the fourth, as Healy led off with a double and catcher Tom Murphy, making his Seattle debut after being acquired in a trade Friday with San Francisco, walked. After Rodriguez got Moore to ground into a double play, Dee Gordon singled to score Healy.

The Mariners knocked Rodriguez out of the game in the fifth, when they scored three more times.

Domingo Santana reached on a fielding error at first base by Moreland, and Edwin Encarnacion lined a single to left. Bruce then hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to center field to make it 6-2.

Rodriguez went 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out five.
