Reds 8, Indians 2: Mat Latos struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to remain unbeaten and host Cincinnati pounded out 18 hits to salvage a split of the two-game series.

Joey Votto had two hits to raise his average to .354, singling home a run and later scoring in a three-run first inning for the Reds. Latos (5-0) allowed one run on five hits, working around four walks.

Cleveland starter Zach McAllister (4-4) surrendered 10 hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.

Votto’s single to center scored Shin-Soo Choo in the first, and Xavier Paul brought in Zack Cozart and Votto later in the inning with a single to center. Paul and Cozart each finished with three hits and seven Reds recorded two or more.

The Indians pulled within 3-1 in the fifth on Michael Bourn’s single to right, scoring Drew Stubbs. The Reds took control with four runs in the seventh, getting run-scoring singles from Devin Mesoraco, Jack Hannahan, Derrick Robinson and Cozart to build a 7-1 advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McAllister lost for the first time since April 24 - a span of six starts, but has pitched at least five innings and allowed three earned runs or fewer in 12 consecutive turns dating to last season… Votto has reached base in 49 of his 52 games this season … The series shifts to Progressive Field in Cleveland on Wednesday and Thursday for the final two games of the series.
