Twins 5, Brewers 4 (15): Denard Span ended a 5 1/2-hour marathon with a walk-off RBI single in the 15th as host Minnesota outlasted Milwaukee and took the rubber game.
Trevor Plouffe led off the bottom of the 15th with a single and moved up on consecutive one-out hits off Tim Dillard (0-2) by Brian Dozier and Jamey Carroll. Plouffe had a chance to score on Carroll's hit but ended up caught in a rundown between third and home.
The Brewers brought in Juan Cruz to face Span, who took two called strikes before sending an 0-2 pitch into right to score Dozier from third.
The teams combined for 35 hits and left 32 men on base.
Anthony Swarzak (1-4) pitched the final inning to earn the win.
The Brewers grabbed the lead in the fifth against Nick Blackburn. Norichika Aoki led off with a double and Nyjer Morgan followed with a bunt single.
Blackburn got the next two but could not retire Corey Hart, who reached out for a 3-2 fastball on the outside corner and took it the opposite way into the seats for a three-run homer and a 4-1 lead. It was Hart’s 14th blast.
The Twins got those runs back in the seventh, finally getting to Zack Greinke with a three-run rally. Plouffe walked leading off the frame and moved up on a groundout before scoring on Carroll’s two-out single.
Span and Ben Revere singled to drive in another run and Joe Mauer tied it 4-4 with a single to center.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was delayed by rain for 42 minutes in the 11th inning. … Mauer left the game after his tying single with a bruised right quad and is day-to-day. He was replaced by a pinch runner and Drew Butera took over behind the plate in the following frame. … Twins closer Matt Capps (shoulder inflammation) was unavailable Sunday but is expected to be ready by Tuesday. … Ryan Braun extended his hitting streak to 12 games but had his home run streak end at three games.
