Phillies 8, Cardinals 7 (11): Juan Pierre beat out a two-out grounder for a walk-off infield single as host Philadelphia rallied for a series-clinching victory.
Erik Kratz, whose three-run homer in the eighth forged a 7-7 tie, led off the 11th with a double off Barret Browning (0-2) but was erased attempting to advance on Jimmy Rollins' grounder. After pinch hitter Brian Schneider's groundout moved Rollins to second, he stole third and scored as Pierre beat shortstop Rafael Furcal's throw to first for the winning hit.
Jeremy Horst (1-0) picked up his first career win after allowing two hits and striking out three in two innings.
Philadelphia fell behind early on Matt Carpenter's RBI double in the first inning, but Chase Utley hit a two-run triple and scored on Ryan Howard's single in the bottom half for a 3-1 lead. After Carlos Beltran's run-scoring double in the third got St. Louis within a run, Carpenter capped a two-run fourth with an RBI single that put the Cardinals ahead.
Howard belted a solo shot in the bottom of the frame to even the contest before Jon Jay ripped a two-run double in the eighth and scored on another single by Carpenter, giving St. Louis a 7-4 advantage. But the Phillies again responded quickly as Kratz swatted his game-tying homer with two outs in bottom half.
