Athletics 14, Orioles 9: Seth Smith matched a career high with five RBIs, including a two-run double to cap Oakland’s six-run ninth inning as the visiting Athletics rallied after blowing leads of 5-0 and 8-6 to win for the eighth time in nine games in wild fashion.

After Baltimore’s Chris Davis capped a three-run eighth inning against closer Ryan Cook with a two-out RBI single to give the Orioles a 9-8 lead, the Athletics returned the favor against closer Jim Johnson (1-1), who was charged with all six runs after retiring the leadoff batter.

Smith delivered a pinch-hit three-run double in the sixth inning to give Oakland an 8-6 lead after Adam Jones’ 24th of the season – a line drive that barely cleared the left field wall – had put Baltimore on top 6-5 in the fifth.

Chris Carter hit a two-run homer, Brandon Hicks added a solo shot and Josh Reddick continued his torrid hitting against the Orioles with two hits and an RBI triple for the Athletics, who are 11-2 since the All-Star break and 17-3 in July.

Reddick crashed into the right field wall to take extra bases away from Nick Markakis to end the game. Reddick remained on the warning track for several moments before leaving the field. He suffered an upper body bruise but there was no sign of a concussion.

J.J. Hardy had three two-out run-scoring hits and Davis homered for the second straight game as the Orioles fell to 3-10 in the last 13 games at home and lost for the fourth time in five games overall.

Jerry Blevins (4-0) was awarded the victory after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Cook allowed three hits and a run.

Oakland scored four runs in the first, capped by Carter’s two-run shot well into the left field seats. The Athletics made it 5-0 in the second on Hicks’ solo blast.
