Adam Jones had a two-run single to ignite a five-run first inning and spark the visiting Baltimore Orioles to an 8-3 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.
Jake Arrieta (9-4) was the beneficiary of the offensive eruption, working five innings and allowing three runs on three hits. He also had a run-scoring single in the first inning.
Nick Markakis had three hits and Derrek Lee and Robert Andino each had two hits and an RBI as the Orioles built a 7-0 lead in sending the Pirates to their fourth consecutive loss.
Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton (7-4) lasted only two innings and was battered for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits.
Ronny Cedeno drove in a pair of runs and Andrew McCutchen had three hits for the Pirates, who have scored seven runs during their four-game skid.
Lee had his fourth straight multi-hit game for Baltimore and is 11-for-18 in that span.
