Nets 107, Mavericks 104 (OT): Joe Johnson scored the tying basket in regulation and finished with 22 points as visiting Brooklyn defeated Dallas for its fourth straight victory.
Marcus Thornton added 20 points off the bench for the Nets, who moved within one game of the fourth-place Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference race. Paul Pierce and Deron Williams added 15 points apiece for Brooklyn, which overcame a 13-point third-quarter deficit.
Monta Ellis scored 32 points but his tying 3-point attempt bounced off the rim at the buzzer as the Mavericks fell into a virtual tie with the Memphis Grizzlies for seventh-place in the Western Conference. Samuel Dalembert recorded season highs of 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots to go along with 12 points but All-Star Dirk Nowitzki had only 10 points on 2-of-12 shooting.
The Mavericks had a 91-87 lead in the final minute of regulation but Johnson hit the tying basket with 9.9 seconds left and knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer 63 seconds into overtime. Williams drained a 3-pointer to give the Nets a 103-95 lead with 1:26 remaining but two late 3-pointers by Ellis drew the Mavericks within one before Pierce made two free throws with 5.4 seconds left prior to the final miss.
Dallas led 48-41 at the break before Dalembert’s basket gave the Mavericks a 14-point advantage early in the third quarter and Dallas led 72-59 late in the stanza. The Nets erupted on a 20-3 burst to take a 79-75 lead with 7:37 remaining in regulation before Dallas rebounded to take a five-point lead on Ellis’ basket with 1:43 left.
