Mariners 13, White Sox 3: Dustin Ackley homered for the second straight contest and drove in four runs while Robinson Cano, Endy Chavez and Kyle Seager each belted two-run shots as host Seattle slugged its way past Chicago.
Ackley, Chavez and Seager matched Cano with two hits and joined Mike Zunino and Logan Morrison with two runs scored for the Mariners, who have won six of nine to reside one-half game behind Kansas City for the American League's second wild card. Chavez added an RBI single and rookie Roenis Elias (9-9) allowed two runs on as many hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
Dayan Viciedo belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the White Sox, who have dropped five of their last six to fall 6 1/2 games behind the Royals. All-Star Alexei Ramirez ripped an RBI double in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
Ackley continued his torrid stretch in the first inning, depositing a 3-1 fastball from Scott Carroll (4-7) over the wall in right-center field for his eighth homer - and fourth in seven games. Chavez tripled the advantage in the fourth with his second blast of the season before Cano gave Seattle a 5-0 lead in the following frame by jumping on a 3-1 slider for his ninth homer.
Viciedo's 15th blast of the season put Chicago on the scoreboard in the sixth, but Ackley answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to left that gave Seattle a 7-2 lead. That closed the book on Carroll, who saw his winless stretch span to four outings after permitting seven runs on as many hits in five innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Morrison ripped an RBI double in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to eight games. ... Chicago 3B Conor Gillaspie had a one-out double in the fifth to record his team's first hit. ... White Sox OF Adam Eaton sat out the contest, one day removed from suffering a bruised lower back while colliding with a post on the wall in right-center at U.S. Cellular Field.
