Lightning 4, Oilers 2: Steven Stamkos scored two unassisted goals and Ben Bishop turned aside 38 shots for his 10th victory as Tampa Bay bested visiting Edmonton for its third consecutive win.
Stamkos, who went without a goal over the first three games of the season, has recorded 13 in the last 12 contests. Tyler Johnson scored his fourth goal and Valtteri Filppula added an empty-netter with 1:05 remaining as the Lightning won for the seventh time in nine games on home ice.
Taylor Hall, who missed the previous seven games with a knee injury, delivered a power-play goal with 9:38 left to bring the Oilers within 3-2. Defenseman Taylor Fedun added his second goal in his second NHL game and Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves for Edmonton, which dropped to 1-5-1 in its last seven games.
Stamkos capitalized on a turnover by Nail Yakupov and hammered a shot past Dubnyk from the high slot 7:37 into the game to open the scoring. Fedun converted a pass from Jordan Eberle 2:34 later to forge a tie before Stamkos answered with 53 seconds left in the first period, stealing the puck from Eberle and beating Dubnyk on a wraparound.
Richard Panik tip-toed around Edmonton defenseman Ladislav Smid in the right corner and fed Johnson in front for a 3-1 lead with 1:27 left in the middle period. Bishop stopped all 16 shots he faced in the second period and made 11 more saves in the third, including a big one with his glove on Boyd Gordon with three minutes left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Stamkos also was credited with six hits and three takeaways. … Edmonton LW Linus Omark, who was recalled from Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League on Wednesday, was in the lineup for the first time this season and played 9:04. … Four of the last six first overall draft picks were on the ice: Stamkos (2008), Hall (2010), Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011) and Yakupov (2012).
