Flyers 5, Islanders 2: Vincent Lecavalier recorded his seventh career hat trick as visiting Philadelphia more than doubled its previous season high in goals en route to winning its second straight game.
Jakub Voracek also scored, Matt Read added an empty-net goal and defenseman Mark Streit burned his former team by setting up a pair of tallies. Michael Raffl notched an assist for his first NHL point, captain Claude Giroux added two assists and Steve Mason finished with 26 saves for the Flyers, who have won 15 of their last 17 visits to Long Island.
New York's Kyle Okposo scored midway through the first period to extend his point streak to nine games. Frans Nielsen netted a short-handed goal and captain John Tavares notched an assist to run his point streak to 10 contests for the Islanders, who fell to 2-4-2 in their last eight games.
After averaging 1.44 goals and mustering just three power-play tallies this season, Philadelphia improved upon those numbers in short order. Lecavalier's blast from the right faceoff circle resulted in a power-play goal 4:30 into the contest and Voracek doubled the advantage exactly one minute later, making a nifty move from the right circle to the slot before sweeping a shot past Kevin Poulin (27 saves).
Okposo answered from just inside the blue line less than five minutes later, but Lecavalier batted his own rebound out of the air and past Poulin with 1:47 left in the first to regain the two-goal advantage. The veteran completed his first hat trick since March 11, 2008 - also against the Islanders - with a brilliant individual effort at 8:53 of the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Entering the game, Philadelphia had yet to score more than two goals in a contest. ... New York RW Michael Grabner returned following a two-game suspension for his hit on Carolina's Nathan Gerbe. ... Philadelphia RW Scott Hartnell returned from a four-game absence due to a lower-body injury. ... Former Islanders G Rick DiPietro signed a professional tryout contract with Charlotte of the American Hockey League. The top overall pick of the 2000 draft, DiPietro last played during the 2012-13 season.
