Islanders 3, Oilers 2: Captain John Tavares and Kyle Okposo each had a goal and an assist as host New York snapped a three-game winless streak with a victory over lowly Edmonton.
Josh Bailey also scored and defenseman Travis Hamonic, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Michael Grabner added assists for the Islanders. Evgeni Nabokov made 27 saves for his third victory.
Taylor Hall scored twice in a franchise-record eight seconds to put the Oilers ahead in the first period, but that was all the offense they could muster. Devan Dubnyk stopped 37 shots in a losing effort.
The Islanders trailed after the opening period for the first time this season despite outshooting Edmonton 16-7. Bailey opened the scoring with a goal 9:59 in the first before Hall unleashed his sudden attack with 4:08 remaining on a pair of assists from Mark Arcobello to put the Oilers ahead.
New York's special teams were on display in the second, with Okposo scoring a power-play goal 4:54 into the period and the Islanders killing three penalties in quick succession before Okposo and Grabner found Tavares for the go-ahead goal at the 18:53 mark.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall's two goals were one second faster than a pair scored by Wayne Gretzky on Feb. 18, 1981. … Six of the Islanders' seven games have been decided by one goal. … Edmonton has given up at least one goal on the penalty kill in all eight games.
