R.J. Cole scored 18 points and Isaiah Whaley added 14 as No. 21 UConn topped Georgetown 86-77 Sunday in Washington, D.C., moving the woeful Hoyas one step closer to becoming only the fourth team in Big East history to have a winless season in the conference.

Tyler Polley scored 11 points and Tyrese Martin had nine points and 14 rebounds for UConn (21-7, 12-5), which can clinch third place in the conference with a victory at Creighton (19-9, 11-6) on Wednesday. Andre Jackson had nine points and six assists for the Huskies.

Dante Harris scored 23 points and Aminu Mohammed 16 for the Hoyas (6-22, 0-17), who have lost 18 consecutive games and have not won since beating Howard on Dec. 15. Sunday's game was Georgetown's home finale, and the Hoyas finish the regular season at Seton Hall (18-9, 9-8) on Wednesday and at Xavier (17-11, 7-10) on Saturday.

Donald Carey scored 13 points and Collin Holloway 11 for the hosts.

The Hoyas used a 13-0 run, accomplished mainly after UConn coach Dan Hurley had removed most of his regulars, to cut the deficit to 81-72 with 55 seconds left. But Hurley reinserted some starters and UConn's Jalen Gaffney made four straight foul shots to end the modest rally.

DePaul in 2008-09 and Miami in 1993-94 both went 0-18 in the conference. Providence was 0-6 in 1979-80, the league's first season.

UConn's Jordan Hawkins, who scored 11 points in 21 minutes, left the game in the second half with an undisclosed injury after a hard fall. He was taken to the locker room but later returned to the bench.

Georgetown, which trailed 41-26 at halftime, made seven of its first 10 shots in the second half but couldn't stop UConn's offense.

A long two-point jumper by Whaley with 12:45 left in the game gave UConn a 60-44 advantage. Ryan Mutombo answered with a putback in the lane, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Whaley and Cole increased the Huskies' lead to 66-46 with 11:27 left, prompting Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing to call a timeout.

In the first half, Timothy Ighoefe's basket off an assist from Harris gave Georgetown its last lead at 13-12 with 12:58 to go. But the Hoyas missed their next 10 shots from the field, which enabled the Huskies to build a 22-14 advantage.

The run began with a one-handed dunk by Hawkins, who finished the spectacular jam despite being fouled at the apex of his leap by Mohammed. Hawkins then completed the three-point play for a 15-13 lead.

After Mutombo hit a short jumper to cut the Hoyas' deficit to 22-16, Polley and Whaley hit back-to-back 3-pointers to increase the lead to 28-16 with 5:59 to go in the half.
