Arizona State 78, DePaul 56: Jahii Carson scored 23 points and the visiting Sun Devils blitzed the Blue Demons with a 17-2 second-half run.

Carson, who sprained his right ankle and scored just eight points Sunday, hit 9-of-16 shots from the field and added nine rebounds for Arizona State (8-2). Jermaine Marshall scored 20 points, Jordan Bachynski blocked eight shots, and Shaquielle McKissic came off the bench to add a career-high 14 points and 12 rebounds.

DePaul (4-4) endured a miserable night offensively, shooting 29.2 percent from the field as leading scorer Cleveland Melvin scored just seven points on 2-of-12 shooting. Billy Garrett Jr. scored 14 points to lead the Blue Demons, who have lost three of their past four.

The Blue Demons pulled within 39-34 on Melvin’s layup with 15:44 remaining, but DePaul went 6:34 without scoring from the field and the Sun Devils took full advantage. Marshall scored eight during the decisive run, hitting a pair of 3-pointers, and McKissic added four points as Arizona State built a 56-36 advantage with 11:33 to play.

Arizona State used back-to-back 3-pointers from Jonathan Gilling and Carson to take an early 10-3 lead, but the Blue Demons rallied to tie the game at 14 on Durrell McDonald’s layup with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. Sandi Marcius’ layup with six seconds left pulled DePaul within 28-25 at halftime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Sun Devils shot 50.9 percent from the field and hit 7-of-16 3-point attempts. … Melvin came in averaging 17.4 points and shooting 53.7 percent from the field. … The Blue Demons played without Brandon Young, their second-leading scorer who missed the game with an ankle sprain.
