Southern Methodist 76, Virginia 73: Anthony Gill scored 19 points off the bench as the Cavaliers advanced to the championship game of the Corpus Christi Challenge at the American Bank Center.

Gill scored all but two of his points in the second half, hitting 7-of-9 free throws for the Cavaliers (6-1), who will play Missouri State in the final. Gill also had seven rebounds, Joe Harris had 15 points, including two free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining, and Akil Mitchell pulled down nine boards.

Nic Moore had 17 points to lead the Mustangs (5-2). Markus Kennedy contributed 14 points, five rebounds and five assists and Yanick Moreira added 11 points.

After the Mustangs built a six-point lead five minutes into the second half, the Cavaliers rallied behind the play of Gill, who had 12 points to propel Virginia to a 63-57 lead with 7:05 remaining. Southern Methodist never could regain the lead, but had a chance for a winning shot trailing 74-73, but was called for a travel with two seconds remaining.

The Cavaliers raced out to a 12-6 advantage behind a pair of 3-pointers from London Perrantes before the Mustangs used a 8-2 run to take their first lead 13-12 at the midway point of the first half. The teams traded the lead four times down the stretch before going into halftime tied at 30.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia was 6-of-8 from 3-point range but just 1-of-13 inside the arc in the first half. ... The Cavaliers entered the game shooting 57.5 percent on free throws, but made 10-of-13 from the line in the first half. ... SMU will play Texas A&M in the consolation game.
