UCLA 68, Stanford 60: Freshman standout Shabazz Muhammad scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the host Bruins win their seventh straight.
Fellow freshman Jordan Adams chipped in 12 points and a season-high seven steals for UCLA (12-3, 2-0 Pac-12), which has won 11 of the last 13 meetings with the Cardinal, including eight straight at home. Larry Drew II dished out seven assists and has 16 against one turnover in his last two contests.
Dwight Powell and Chasson Randle led Stanford (9-6, 0-2) with 17 points apiece. Their teammates combined to go 10-for-35 (28.6 percent) from the floor.
The Bruins never trailed after a David Wear 3-pointer less than six minutes in and a Drew layup in the closing seconds of the first half gave UCLA a 30-22 lead. Muhammad had two jumpers in a 42-second span early in the second and also hit a 3-pointer to start a 7-0 burst that put the Bruins ahead 43-29 with 14:30 left.
UCLA piled up missed free throws and turnovers down the stretch and Randle scored nine points in the final 48 seconds to keep it close, but the Cardinal never got closer than five points. Muhammad hit five in a row at the line in the final minute to help seal it.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Stanford plays its next three games at home, matching the longest homestand of the season. ... Drew had a total of 18 assists between turnovers over a span of three games. ... Kyle Anderson, also a freshman, had a game-high 12 rebounds for UCLA.
