Erving Walker hit a career-high seven 3-pointers, and No. 14 Florida wrapped up preparation for SEC play with a 79-61 home victory over UAB.
The Gators (12-3) shook free from the Blazers in the final five minutes of the first half, hitting seven 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes to win for the seventh time in eight games. Walker led the Gators with 23 points, going 7-for-9 from 3-point range.
Florida rode a 10-2 run across the final 4:34 of the first half to build a 37-26 halftime lead. Walker and Kenny Boynton each hit 3-pointers in the final 1:45 of the half.
Boynton added 20 points, shooting 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Florida finished 15-for-26 from 3-point range, setting a season high for most 3s made in a game.
Patric Young, who scored 19 points in Florida’s victory over Yale on Saturday, scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half. He added two baskets in the first three minutes of the second half, pushing the Gators’ lead to 43-28 with 17:41 remaining.
Down by as many as 21 in the second half, the Blazers (5-8) pulled within 64-55 with five minutes to go before 3-pointers by Boynton and Walker ended the threat.
Cameron Moore scored 15 points to lead UAB, which saw its three-game winning streak end. Ovie Soko added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
