Perry Jones III scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures as No. 5 Baylor opened the Big 12 schedule with a 61-52 victory over visiting Texas A&M on Monday.

Jones III, a projected NBA lottery pick, also grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and fourth of his career. He finished 6-of-12 from the field.

Quincy Acy added 13 points, Quincy Miller had 11 and A.J. Walton chipped in 10 for the Bears (14-0), who improved upon their best start in program history and broke the 1945-46 team’s record for longest winning streak. They also remained one of four undefeated teams in Division I.

The Bears also won their 51st consecutive game when holding an opponent to less than 60 points.

Despite shooting only 37 percent in the first half, Baylor held a 30-17 halftime advantage after holding the Aggies (9-4) to only six made field goals on 21 percent shooting.

That was more of the same for Texas A&M, which has struggled offensively all season and entered the game ranked last in the conference in scoring.

Elston Turner had a game-high 21 points for the Aggies, who finished only 29 percent on field goals.

After the break, Texas A&M never could make a push, and Acy’s second career 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring made it 35-19 early in the second.

The Aggies cut the gap to 57-48 on Turner’s 3-pointer with 2:26 remaining, but by that point there wasn’t enough time to make a late charge.
