Dante Taylor had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 13 Pittsburgh to a 71-47 wire-to-wire victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday.
The Panthers (11-1) won their ninth straight game and improved to 91-2 versus non-conference opponents at the Petersen Events Center
St. Francis (3-8) fell to 0-29 against Pittsburgh.
Taylor scored eight points in the first half, finishing most of those buckets above the rim. Sophomore reserve J.J. Moore added 15 points off the bench, including an emphatic dunk to start a three-point play in the first half.
The Panthers scored the first 13 points and held the Red Flash scoreless for the first six minutes. Pittsburgh’s quick ball movement often found St. Francis out of position, turning the game into a slam dunk contest.
St. Francis would not go down without a fight as it outscored the Panthers 14-10 in the final six minutes of the first half to trail 39-21 at halftime. However, a 10-0 Pittsburgh run to open the second half took the air out of the Red Flash’s comeback hopes.
Anthony Ervin led St. Francis with 13 points, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range, while Stephon Whyatt added 10 points.
Pittsburgh outrebounded the Red Flash 40-18, and had 16 offensive boards.
