Storm Warren scored 12 points off the bench, including two free throws with one second left, to lead LSU to a wild 59-58 victory at Houston on Tuesday.
The Tigers (4-3) led 57-56 for much of the final two minutes until the Cougars (3-3) went ahead 58-57 on Jonathon Simmons’ jumper with 10 seconds left.
Anthony Hickey, LSU’s speedy freshman point guard, went down the court and missed a layup that Warren rebounded. J.J. Thompson fouled Warren, sending him to the line for the game-winning free throws.
Andre Stringer scored 13 points to lead LSU, which bounced back from a home loss to South Alabama. Hickey entered the game as the team’s leading scorer, but he mustered only two points on 1-of-11 shooting.
Alandise Harris had 21 points for Houston, which has lost its last three home games by a combined four points.
The Tigers trailed 38-30 at halftime and for most of the game until they went on a 14-4 run in the middle of the second half and took a 46-44 lead on Chris Bass’ layup with 12:49 left.
