Jeff Teague scored 16 points to go with nine assists and Kyle Korver, Thabo Sefolosha and Shelvin Mack added 12 apiece for the Hawks. Mike Scott added 11 points and fellow reserve Dennis Schroder scored 10 for Atlanta, which shot 56 percent from the floor.
Mario Chalmers racked up 23 points and 11 assists off the bench to lead Miami, which was without star guard Dwyane Wade because of a strained left hamstring. Shawne Williams added 21 points, Chris Bosh had 20 and Luol Deng chipped in 19 for the Heat.
The Heat hung around for much of the night and twice pulled within four in the third quarter but went to the final period trailing 86-79. Scott's three-point play to open the fourth pushed the margin back to double digits and he scored two straight buckets to help Atlanta pull away.
Horford scored Atlanta's first seven points as the Hawks ran out to a 12-1 lead and pushed the margin as wide as 16 early in the second quarter. Williams and Bosh kept the Heat in it, and Miami pulled within four before Atlanta closed the half with a 10-4 run for a 62-52 advantage.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Hawks recorded assists on 18 of their 20 field goals in the first half and finished with 33 assists on 42 field goals. … Atlanta's 62 points and 60.6 percent shooting in the first half are season-best marks for any half. … Hawks SF DeMarre Carroll (groin) missed his second straight game and will not play Saturday against Cleveland while Miami F Josh McRoberts sat out with a blister on his foot.
