Spurs 107, Heat 86: Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and 14 rebounds and Tony Parker scored 19 points as visiting San Antonio dismantled Miami for the second straight game to take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
Tim Duncan contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds for his 158th career postseason double-double to surpass the record held by former Los Angeles Lakers standout Magic Johnson. Patty Mills made four 3-pointers while scoring 14 points off the bench as San Antonio shot 57.1 percent from the field and posted a 44-27 rebounding advantage.
LeBron James had 28 points and eight rebounds but couldn’t prevent the Heat from suffering their third double-digit loss of the series. Miami dropped back-to-back home games by an average of 20 points and will try to keep San Antonio from winning its fifth NBA title when the Spurs host Game 5 on Sunday.
San Antonio led by nine points after the first quarter and started to pull away in the second when it limited the Heat to five field goals. The lead reached 22 on Leonard’s mammoth putback dunk late in the half and the Spurs settled for a 55-36 halftime lead.
The advantage was 24 after Leonard drained a 3-pointer with 3:49 left in the third quarter and San Antonio led 81-57 entering the final stanza. The Spurs led by as many as 25 in the fourth while putting a capper on their second consecutive dominating outing.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Spurs F Boris Diaw had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds and nine assists. … Miami had followed up a playoff loss with a victory 13 consecutive times before dropping its second consecutive postseason game for the first time since 2012. … Duncan (8,869) broke the postseason record for most minutes played, previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (8,851).
