Kevin Durant scored 28 of his 40 points in the second half and Russell Westbrook added 22 points and 11 assists as the Oklahoma City Thunder held off the visiting Memphis Grizzlies 109-100 on Saturday night.
Durant and Westbrook combined for 28 of the Thunder’s 34 points in the third quarter to push a two-point halftime lead to 83-77 heading into the final period.
The NBA’s top scoring duo (49.8 point) combined for 10 points down the stretch to seal the victory after Memphis had pulled within four.
Durant and Westbrook needed outstanding performances to offset another overwhelming effort by Memphis forward Zach Randolph, who had 27 points and 16 rebounds but couldn’t prevent the Grizzlies from having their three-game winning streak snapped.
Randolph is averaging 25.8 points and 13.5 rebounds in his last eight games.
Oklahoma City won this game by holding Randolph to just three points in the final quarter, allowing Rudy Gay to score just five of his 20 points in the second half and hitting 27-of-29 free throws after halftime.
