David West scored 34 points and the New Orleans Hornets survived a late fourth-quarter rally to beat their former coach Byron Scott and the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-101 on Friday.

The Hornets led by 18 in the fourth after the Cavs shot just 4-of-23 in the second quarter, but the Cavs whittled the deficit to 104-101 on three free throws by Antawn Jamison with 21.2 seconds left.

Marco Belinelli knocked down a pair of free throws at the other end and the Hornets held on to move to 7-0 at home this season.

Belinelli had 20 points and Chris Paul had 15 points and 10 assists for the first-place Hornets.

Mo Williams returned to the starting lineup for the Cavs after missing two games with a strained groin and finished with eight points. Varejao had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Jamison had 20 points and 11 rebounds to become the third player in NBA history with at least 7,000 rebounds, 900 3-pointers made and 17,000 career points.

Cleveland’s Joey Graham was ejected after getting whistled for a flagrant 2 foul for a blow to West’s head in the fourth quarter. Less than three minutes later, the Cavs’ Ryan Hollins was given a flagrant 1 for grabbing West by the shoulders and pulling him down while he went up for a shot.
