Pirates 7, Brewers 1: Travis Snider homered and drove in three runs and Francisco Liriano won for the second time in two starts, lifting host Pittsburgh to its third consecutive victory over reeling Milwaukee.
Snider had three hits, including a tiebreaking two-run homer in the fifth off Milwaukee starter Hiram Burgos (1-2), as the Pirates moved seven games above .500 and won for the sixth time in seven games. Liriano (2-0), making his second start, gave up one run on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven.
Burgos allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings as Milwaukee fell to 2-12 in May and dropped to 6-12 away from home. Jean Segura finished with two hits and stole his major league-leading 14th base.
Milwaukee scored its major league-leading 35th first-inning run in the opening frame on Jonathan Lucroy’s single to center, plating Segura. Pittsburgh tied the game in the fourth on Clint Barmes’ double to left, scoring Pedro Alvarez.
Pittsburgh opened up breathing room with four runs in the sixth, including Snider’s run-scoring single to center. Pittsburgh pounded out 13 hits, getting two each from Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen, Garrett Jones and Russell Martin.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh OF Jose Tabata, hitting .417 in his past 13 games, did not play. … Snider hit his first homer since Aug. 10, 2012, against San Diego. … The Brewers dropped to 0-16 when scoring fewer than four runs.
