Giants 4, Dodgers 2: Hunter Pence homered and Brett Pill drove in two runs as visiting San Francisco rallied for a rare victory against Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw.
The Giants trailed 2-0 when they opened the seventh with four consecutive singles and scored three times against Kershaw (14-9), who lost for the first time in five starts against the Giants this season. Joaquin Arias put the Giants on the board with an RBI single before Pill delivered a go-ahead, two-run base hit.
Juan Uribe belted a two-run homer in the sixth for the Dodgers, whose magic number to clinch the National League West was reduced to four with Arizona’s loss to Colorado. Uribe’s blast came off Madison Bumgarner (12-9), who yielded two runs over six frames and snapped a seven-game winless streak.
Pence homered for the second straight game in the eighth and Sergio Romo recorded four outs for his 34th save in 38 opportunities. Pence, Arias and Pablo Sandoval each collected two hits for the Giants, who won for the second time in their last eight meetings with Los Angeles.
Los Angeles' Andre Ethier left the game in the eighth with a left ankle injury after sliding into second on his 33rd double of the season. Romo retired A.J. Ellis on a grounder to third base to end the inning and induced a groundout by Adrian Gonzalez with runners at the corners in the ninth to seal the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez missed the contest with an irritated nerve in his back and is not expected to return until next week. … Giants LF Juan Perez made the defensive play of the game in the sixth, when he robbed Ellis of extra bases with a diving catch at the warning track. … Uribe hit cleanup for the first time since June 28, 2010, when he was playing for San Francisco.
