Astros 7, Brewers 4 (10): Carlos Pena belted a three-run homer in the 10th inning to give host Houston a walk-off win over Milwaukee.
Michael Gonzalez (0-3) struck out the first two batters in the 10th - although Carlos Corporan was able to reach on a wild pitch and J.D. Martinez followed with a double. Pena came up next and ripped a first-pitch slider out to deep right to secure the win.
Corporan added a tying home run in the eighth inning and Hector Ambriz (2-4) worked a scoreless inning of relief to pick up the win for the Astros, who have won six of their last eight games.
The Brewers took advantage of Houston’s defense to grab a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Aramis Ramirez scored when Jose Altuve committed an error at second base, and two runs came in after center fielder Justin Maxwell dropped Caleb Gindl’s fly to the warning track.
The Astros recorded a pair of RBI fielder’s choices in the fifth before Jonathan Lucroy’s solo home run in the sixth made it 4-2. Matt Dominguez cut it back to a one-run deficit with an RBI double and Corporan tied it by greeting right-hander Jim Henderson with a solo blast off the foul pole in right leading off the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Corporan’s home run took the decision away from Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo, who allowed three unearned runs on five hits in seven innings. Houston starter Lucas Harrell was charged with four runs - one earned - on five hits in 5 1/3 frames. … Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun (thumb) could reportedly be out a month. … The Brewers will return home to face the Atlanta Braves on Friday while the Astros will begin a road trip at the Chicago Cubs.
