Angels 6, Athletics 1: Zack Greinke pitched seven strong innings to win his third consecutive start and surging Los Angeles beat host Oakland for the second straight game.
Kendrys Morales had three hits and two RBIs and Alberto Callaspo had two hits and two RBIs as the Angels won for the seventh time in eight games to get within 3 1/2 games of the American League wild card lead.
Greinke (4-2) allowed one run and scattered four hits to improve to 6-1 lifetime against Oakland, which dropped into a tie for the wild card lead and remained four games back of Texas in the AL West.
Greinke's only mistake was allowing a leadoff homer to Brandon Moss in the seventh that cut the lead to 2-1 before the Angels tacked on two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Athletics right-hander starter Jarrod Parker (9-8) allowed two runs on eight hits in seven innings. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
The Angels broke a scoreless deadlock in the fifth with three singles, the last one by Mike Trout plating Callaspo for a 1-0 lead. Callaspo's sacrifice fly in the sixth doubled the lead, but Moss's solo blast in the seventh cut it to 2-1.
Erick Aybar had an RBI double in the eighth and scored on Callaspo's single to provide some insurance runs for Los Angeles, which improved to 11-3 in its last 14 games.
