Twins 10, Tigers 4 (Game 1): Joe Mauer recorded three hits and four RBIs, and visiting Minnesota scored five times in the sixth inning to hand Detroit a damaging loss in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

Ben Revere added three runs and three hits for Minnesota, including a leadoff triple that ignited the sixth-inning rally. Mauer, Justin Morneau and Trevor Plouffe each had RBI singles in the sixth as the Twins took a 5-2 lead. Mauer added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and two-run triple in the eighth.

Twins starter Scott Diamond (12-8) allowed just four hits and two runs over seven innings.

Detroit starter Max Scherzer (16-7), who came out early in his last start Sept. 18 with shoulder fatigue, had allowed three hits and struck out four in the first five innings. But the Twins started the sixth with three straight hits and he was relieved by Phil Coke. Scherzer, who had won six straight decisions, lost for first time since July 30.

Diamond retired the first 10 batters he faced, but the Tigers touched him up for a pair of runs in the fourth. Omar Infante singled, Miguel Cabrera followed with an RBI double and Delmon Young made it 2-0 with a two-out RBI single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Revere was 3-of-29 coming into the game. … Tigers rookie outfielder Avisail Garcia had his first career two-RBI game. … Diamond won for only the second time since Aug. 6.
