Marlins 7, Brewers 3: Ricky Nolasco pitched seven strong innings and Jose Reyes drove in three runs as host Miami slowed surging Milwaukee.
Nolasco, Donnie Murphy, Donovan Solano and Gorkys Hernandez each recorded an RBI for the Marlins, who snapped a four-game slide.
Mike Fiers (8-7) got knocked around for six runs (four earned) and six hits in 3 1/3 innings for the Brewers, including five runs in the fourth that put Miami on top. Seven straight batters reached on six hits and a walk with one out, capped by Reyes’ two-run single to center that chased Fiers.
Nolasco (11-12) scattered nine hits and was charged with three runs (one earned) while striking out four and not walking a batter. Coming off a shutout of Washington last week, the burly right-hander has struck out 10 without a walk and has surrendered only one earned run in his last 16 innings.
The Brewers came in winners of three straight and 11 of 13. They looked headed toward another victory in the second, when Jonathan Lucroy reached on an error and Carlos Gomez followed with a two-run homer to left.
Miami cut the deficit in half on Reyes’ sacrifice fly in the third before exploding in the fourth.
Ryan Braun singled in a run in the seventh to cut it to 6-3 but the Marlins tacked on an insurance run in the eighth.
Steve Cishek recorded the final out with two runners on to pick up his 12th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers recalled RHP Brandon Kintzler, who had worked his way up through the minors after suffering an elbow injury in spring training. … Milwaukee plans on making more call-ups Tuesday, after Triple-A Nashville’s season has ended. … The Marlins will use a six-man rotation for the rest of the season, with Wade LeBlanc getting a turn Tuesday and rookie Jacob Turner pushed back to Friday.
