Oilers 3, Lightning 2: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins snapped a tie with 3:25 remaining in the third period and host Edmonton held on for its first victory of the season.
Taylor Hall recorded a goal and an assist while defenseman Justin Schultz also scored for the Oilers, who are 1-1-0 on their season-high seven-game homestand. Ben Scrivens turned aside 22 shots as Edmonton posted its fourth straight home triumph over Tampa Bay.
Brian Boyle and Brett Connolly tallied for the Lightning, who fell to 1-1-0 on their five-game road trip. Ben Bishop finished with 20 saves as Tampa Bay allowed more than two goals for the first time this season.
After a scoreless first period, Tampa Bay grabbed the lead 1:21 into the second as Boyle's backhander toward the front of the net from deep along the right-wing boards caromed off Schultz and past Scrivens. Schultz atoned for his misfortune less than four minutes later, carrying the puck down the right wing and cutting to the net before beating Bishop with a backhander at 4:36.
Hall was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked by Lightning defenseman Matt Carle during a breakaway and made good on the opportunity, sliding a backhander between Bishop's pads with 5:03 left in the period for a 2-1 edge. Connolly drew Tampa Bay even with 6:05 remaining in the third by one-timing Tyler Johnson's feed past Scrivens from the slot, but Nugent-Hopkins wristed the puck inside the right post from the top of the slot after a turnover 2:40 later to put the Oilers ahead for good.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tampa Bay LW Jonathan Drouin made his NHL debut, registering one shot and a minus-1 rating in 16:10 of ice time. ... The Lightning announced they will be without D Victor Hedman for four to six weeks due to a fractured finger suffered Saturday at Vancouver. ...
