Senators 2, Penguins 1 (2OT): Colin Greening scored at 7:39 of the second overtime as host Ottawa got back into its Eastern Conference second-round series against top-seeded Pittsburgh.
After both teams failed to convert during a power-play opportunity in the second extra session, Senators defenseman Andre Benoit unleashed a shot from the right faceoff dot that Tomas Vokoun stopped. Greening grabbed the rebound and slid a backhand shot around the netminder from the doorstep for his third goal in as many games.
Captain Daniel Alfredsson scored to forge a 1-1 tie with 28.6 seconds left in the third period. Craig Anderson rebounded from a shaky performance in Game 2 to make 49 saves for seventh-seeded Ottawa, which looks to even the series when it hosts Game 4 on Wednesday.
Tyler Kennedy tallied and Vokoun turned aside 46 shots for the Penguins. Reigning Hart Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin was kept off the scoresheet, ending his eight-game point streak.
After a scoreless first period, Kennedy got Pittsburgh on the board with 1:07 remaining in the second as he received a pass from Matt Cooke following a turnover and rifled the puck into the top right corner of the net from the right hash marks. The goal stood to be the game-winner until Alfredsson redirected a perfect pass from high along the left-wing boards by Milan Michalek past Vokoun while his team was short-handed.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ottawa C Jason Spezza played in his first game since Jan. 27 - also against Pittsburgh. The veteran, who registered four shots in 18:40 of ice time, recorded a point in each of the five regular-season contests in which he appeared before undergoing back surgery. ... The Penguins made a pair of lineup changes, replacing Deryk Engelland with fellow D Mark Eaton and inserting LW Tanner Glass for C Joe Vitale. ... Ottawa RW Erik Condra left the game in the final minute of the second period with an apparent injury but took regular shifts the rest of the way.
