Tarris Reed Jr. scored a career-best 19 points to help visiting Michigan get its season back on track with a 90-80 Big Ten victory over Iowa on Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Michigan (5-5, 1-1 Big Ten) broke a three-game losing skid while Iowa (5-5, 0-2) lost its third in a row. The loss was the Hawkeyes' first in five games on their home floor.
Reed, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, dominated inside on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line, leading six Wolverines in double-figure scoring.
Olivier Nkamhoua had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nimari Burnett added 14 points for the Wolverines, who got 13 from Terrance Williams II, 11 from Dug McDaniel and 10 from sixth man Will Tschetter.
McDaniel, who entered averaging 19.4 points per game, didn't get his first basket until there were 16 minutes left on a driving layup.
Iowa's Ben Krikke, a grad transfer forward from Valparaiso, scored a game-high 24 points. Tony Perkins scored 19 and Patrick McCaffery and Payton Sandfort had 10 apiece for Iowa.
Michigan led 35-33 at the half, but after allowing the Hawkeyes to go ahead by two at the start of the second half the Wolverines broke off an 11-0 run to take control.
Neither team led by more than five points in the first half as both teams worked hard getting back in transition to shut down the other's high-powered offenses. Iowa entered the game averaging 85.3 points per game to Michigan's 81.2.
Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery was ejected from the game for the fifth time in his 14-year career at Iowa with 12:25 remaining after drawing his second technical when his team fell behind by 20 at 62-42.
Michigan broke a 1-5 stretch that included three losses in a row to Texas Tech, Oregon and Indiana. Iowa lost to Purdue and Iowa State before Sunday's defeat.
Interim head coach Phil Martelli led the Wolverines from the bench for the 10th straight game as Michigan's head man Juwan Howard transitions back to coaching after successful September heart surgery.
