No. 16 Wichita State 77, Tulsa 54: Fred VanVleet scored 21 points and dished out a game-high six assists to lead the visiting Shockers past the Golden Hurricane.

Ron Baker added 21 points of his own on 7-of-9 shooting for Wichita State, which won its first road contest of the season and moved to 5-0 for the second straight year. Cleanthony Early contributed 12 points and nine rebounds for the Shockers, who picked up their play in the second half after a lackluster opening frame for the third consecutive game.

Pat Swilling Jr. led all scorers with 12 points for Tulsa, which dropped to 0-3 for the first time in 36 years. James Woodard pitched in eight points and nine rebounds for the Golden Hurricane, who have lost 17 straight against ranked opponents.

The teams reached halftime knotted at 31, with neither side able to build more than a three-point advantage throughout the first half. VanVleet led the Shockers with 10 points at the break, while Swilling topped all first-half scorers for Tulsa with six.

Wichita State finally started to pull away in the second half when a Tekele Cotton dunk sparked a 24-9 run that staked the Shockers to a 71-53 lead. The stretch run was a breeze for the visitors, who took a 20-point lead on an Early 3-pointer with 3:02 remaining and never looked back.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Shockers improved to 63-60 all-time against Tulsa with their sixth straight win in the series. ... The 1977-78 Golden Hurricanes were the last Tulsa squad to begin a season 0-3, and went on to lose its first seven games. ...
