Jimmer Fredette scored 39 points and No. 14 Brigham Young ended an eight-game losing streak at UNLV with an 89-77 victory Wednesday in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams.
The Cougars (15-1) won for the first time at the Thomas & Mack Center since 2005, and improved to 5-14 all-time at UNLV.
The Rebels (12-3) entered the game allowing 60.1 points per game, but Fredette got more than half of that himself. He was 12 of 29 from the field, including 7 of 14 from 3-point range.
Jackson Emery had 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and Brandon Davies added 15 points for BYU.
Anthony Marshall scored 26 points, and Oscar Bellfield and Brice Massamba scored 10 apiece for UNLV, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.
